Are you at risk of acute alcohol poisoning?

There are several factors that increase risk of acute alcohol poisoning. These include,

Your body weight. The lower your body weight the higher is the risk of acute alcohol poisoning. Obese people, have at least one advantage of lower risk of alcohol poisoning. This is probably due to distribution of alcohol from blood (alcohol is absorbed in the blood stream from stomach) to various tissues and also for metabolism of alcohol by body.

If you have eaten shortly before starting to consume alcohol, your risk is low. If you drink on empty stomach, your risk of acute alcohol poisoning is high. If you have food in stomach, you tend to absorb alcohol much slowly compare to absorption on empty stomach. Slow absorption leads to lower level of alcohol in blood.
Your overall health. If you are not at good general health or have poor health, you are at risk of acute alcohol poisoning after drinking too much in short time.

The higher the percentage of alcohol in your drink, the higher is the risk of acute alcohol poisoning. Because with a fix quantity of your drink, you are consuming higher alcohol. If you drink low percentage drink such as beer, your risk is low, in compare to drinking whisky, scotch, wine etc. which contain more than 40% alcohol.
The faster you drink and the higher quantity of alcohol you drink, the higher is the risk of acute alcohol poisoning, especially if you are thin and on empty stomach.

If you combine your drink with other drugs, the risk of acute alcohol poisoning much higher.
Your tolerance level. If you are a regular drinker, your liver will be able to metabolize alcohol faster, due to secretion of various enzymes for alcohol metabolism. Hence, if you are not a regular drinker, your risk of acute alcohol poisoning is high.

Female sex. Females metabolize alcohol slowly compare to man of same size (by body weight). This may be due to presence of higher amount of fats in females. Hence, if you are a female and you drink same quantity of alcohol, you are at greater risk of acute alcohol poisoning in compare to males ( you can blame nature).
